All Uncovered
Acrylic on Canvas · 48 × 120 in · 2022
I created All Uncovered in January 2022, after moving into the bunkhouse residency. After such a long period of quarantine and isolation, I was deeply longing for freedom—to move, to breathe, and simply to paint.
Standing in front of this large, blank canvas, I felt completely free. I didn’t begin with a plan or a specific image. I followed my heart, allowing abstract colours and gestures to come naturally. As the painting developed, the colours and marks began to reflect the way I experienced winter in Saskatchewan—its coldness, vastness, stillness, and unexpected beauty.
The trees and winter landscape gradually emerged through the layers of colour. What began as an instinctive and abstract response became a landscape shaped by memory, emotion, and my experience of a Saskatchewan winter.
For me, All Uncovered is about that moment of opening up again after being confined for so long—the freedom to stand before a blank canvas and simply let the painting happen.
