I created Contour of The Forrest during an artist residency at Forestry Farm in Saskatoon in early 2022, shortly after the COVID-19 period.

I would drop my children off at school in the morning, go directly to the residency, and paint until it was time to pick them up.

Those few hours felt incredibly precious to me.

I remember experiencing the simple luxury of having uninterrupted time to stand in front of a painting and simply look, observe and paint.

The forest became a place of quiet after a period of uncertainty. I was drawn to the way light moved through the trees, revealing some areas while leaving others hidden.

I wanted the painting to feel almost like entering the forest—to lose yourself in its layers, textures and shifting light.

For me, this painting holds a feeling of freedom, stillness and gratitude.
