Title: Lotus Pond (2011) — Original Panoramic Oil Painting

Dimensions: 65 x 200 cm (25.60 x 78.84 inch)

Lotus Pond is more than a landscape; it is a preservation of memory. Growing up in a hometown dotted with lotus ponds, these bodies of water were the backdrop of daily life. But one pond, in particular, holds a profound significance: the lotus pond at the old location of Sichuan University.

For generations, students, faculty, and locals have woven their own stories around its banks. It is a place of beauty, reflection, and quiet history. Painted in 2011, this sweeping 200 cm long-roll canvas is my attempt to capture that collective memory.

The composition invites the viewer to take a mental walk along the water's edge. The dramatic, dark horizon gives way to a lush, textured expanse of undulating greens—emerald, olive, and deep shadow. Through expressive, thick impasto brushstrokes, the painting conveys the tangible weight of the lotus leaves and the stillness of the water. Whether you are a Sichuan University alumnus carrying your own memories of that pond, or simply someone who finds peace in nature, this piece serves as a serene, grounding presence.
