The View (2021)

Acrylic on canvas

The View explores memory, isolation, and the longing for connection during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seated on a wooden chair with her eyes obscured, a young girl gazes outward into a landscape where past and present coexist.

The middle section captures the vibrant streetscape of my former home in Japan, while floating above is the familiar sanctuary of my garden in Saskatoon. By layering these distant places, the painting reflects an internal geography—a quiet longing to bridge physical distance and reconnect with the world outside during a period of profound boundary and separation.
